Re-Elect Omar Sterling McGill Schenectady County Legislator District One
Omar Sterling McGill is a proud native of Schenectady, NY. He attended The Albany Academy and earned his B.A. in Business Management from Morehouse College. While in Atlanta, he founded Educating Progressive Influential Changers, Inc. (EPIC, INC)—a nonprofit focused on college readiness, health awareness, and community service for youth.
Back in Schenectady, Omar continued his civic work by hosting enrichment programs and community events that supported over 400 students and families with school supplies, health resources, food, and voter registration.
He currently serves as Director of Marketing and Communications at The Commission on Independent Colleges & Universities, and previously contributed to key legislation in the NYS Senate and Assembly. In 2022, he became the first African American elected to the Schenectady County Legislature, representing District 1. He chairs the Workforce Development Committee and serves as Vice-Chair of both the Health and Housing, and Neighborhood Revitalization Committees.
Omar is also a board member of the Schenectady County Boys and Girls Club and the Schenectady Day Nursery. His passion for service and equity drives his commitment to creating lasting impact.
