Vote Schenectady Democrats
Elect Hayden Engert City Council
Hayden Engert is seeking a seat on the Schenectady City Council. Hayden’s dedication to serving the people of Schenectady is deeply rooted in his lifelong commitment to community involvement and government participation. His vision for a better Schenectady is driven by his belief in the power of collaboration, neighborhood improvement, and civic engagement.
Born and raised in Schenectady’s Northside Neighborhood, Hayden has always been an active participant in local initiatives like cleaning up litter in our parks and attending community meetings about concerns that are affecting the neighborhoods. Hayden understands the importance of neighbors working together to create positive change. His hands-on approach reflects his belief that strong communities are built through mutual support and shared goals.
Hayden carried his passion for service to Siena College, where he studied accounting and government. During his time there, he made a meaningful impact by participating in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA). Through this program, Hayden helped low-to-moderate-income taxpayers, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those with limited English proficiency navigate their tax returns with confidence.
In addition to his volunteer work, Hayden gained valuable experience as a Student Intern in the Office of the New York State Comptroller’s Division of Investigations. This role allowed him to contribute to addressing improper governmental activities and promoting transparency in audits—an experience that shaped his understanding of accountability in public service.
Hayden’s involvement in politics began with the Schenectady Democratic Party. As a committee member for both the City and County Democratic Parties, he has worked tirelessly to advocate for policies and projects that benefit local communities while building strong relationships with other political and community leaders.
Hayden’s contributions did not go unnoticed by city leadership. He now serves as Commissioner on the Schenectady Planning Commission, where he has played an active role in shaping decisions that affect every corner of the city—from small businesses to major development projects like Union College’s new hockey facility. His leadership was further recognized when he was elected Assistant Chair of the Planning Commission and appointed as liaison to the Electric City Recharging Committee.
Through these roles, Hayden has demonstrated his ability to balance community needs with long-term planning, ensuring that Schenectady continues to grow while preserving its unique character.
Hayden is running for City Council because he believes in the potential of Schenectady’s residents, neighborhoods, and programs. His campaign is centered on creating partnerships that improve quality of life for everyone. Hayden invites all residents to join him in working toward key goals:
- Quality of Life Improvements: Investing in education, training, and high-growth industries to create stable, well-paying jobs that uplift workers and communities.
- Youth Engagement: Empowering young voters through political participation and career opportunities to drive job creation, affordable housing, and family-centered neighborhoods.
- Senior Citizens: Ensuring dignified aging through affordable housing, healthcare access, retirement security, and community support programs.
- Neighborhood Revitalization: Collaborating with residents to implement tailored solutions that enhance safety, infrastructure, and local amenities.
- Street Paving: Prioritizing road maintenance to improve safety, connectivity, and neighborhood aesthetics.
- Litter Education and Enforcement: Combating litter through public awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement to foster cleaner, healthier communities.
Hayden Engert believes that together we can recharge Schenectady’s Electric City spirit through collaboration and shared commitment. He invites voters to join him—and other Democratic candidates—in building a brighter future for all residents. Vote for Hayden Engert and help create a thriving Schenectady where everyone can succeed.
